Greensboro Martial Arts Academy takes quality and safety seriously. We want you to get to know our instructors even before you walk into our school.  Our instructors aren't just good martial artists, they are good people too.

How many years have you been involved as a martial artist?
I have been a martial artist for 5 years.

What is the most difficult obstacle you had continuing your training?
I decided to try some new styles and branch out from my Tae Kwon Do background, learning the new techniques and style proved to be challenging in the beginning.

Why did you pursue martial arts?
I have always wanted to do martial arts but never had the opportunity... After facing a major life obstacle when I got Leukemia...
I wanted to do something that could slowly build my body back and martial arts did just that.

Were you bullied in your youth?
Yes, as a person of small stature people always seemed to take that as an excuse to pick on me.

How long have you been teaching martial arts?
It's 2016 now, so it's been almost two years of teaching.  The martial arts part is new to teaching, but I've been a teacher most of my life through dance and National Dance Competitions.

What kind of teacher are you?
I'm an intuitive and creative teacher... I allow my classes to flow to meet the current needs of my students but always raising
the bar for them to grow.

What do you teach best and what don't you do well?
I love to kick and I really enjoy breaking kicks down and helping people learn to do them correctly and effectively.

Do you consider yourself a good martial artist?
I always strive to be the best martial artist I can be.

What do you recommend for students who have anger issues?
Learning to find that one part of your training that you love and redirect and channel that energy into training.

What experience do you have teaching outside of the martial arts?
I have been teaching dance for 10 years to children and adults. I am a local swing dance instructor in the Greensboro area
and a dance teacher at Faith Christian Academy in Mckleansville.

What is your career?
I am a massage therapist and a swing dance instructor.

How did you choose your career?
I've always been interested in massage and I knew that I really enjoy working with the physical body because of my dance background ... But after my cancer I came to the realization that I wanted to help bring healing to people in pain.

Do you enjoy teaching children?
I love teaching children

What groups of people/students are you best at teaching?
I have strengths and weaknesses at teaching both children and adults but I like to think I am an effective teacher to both

What promise do you want to make to your students?
I promise to always give them the best I can and continually push them to be the best they can be in their martial arts
training and in life.

How are you going to help your students be successful?
By setting small attainable goals that will build and grow to meet their long term goals.

Do you have a formal education?
I have an associates degree for massage therapy as well as a background in Entertainment Technology... I also have formal training in many forms and styles of Dance.

What life lessons can you teach well to students?
To never give up on their dreams. I also love teaching people about connection and relationships with the other people in their lives.

Why do you teach martial arts?
To help bring strength and power to others.

Have you ever been in a physical fight outside of the dojo and what we're the circumstances surrounding it?
Not at this point but I want to be prepared in the event it's needed.

How do you feel about recreational drugs in your personal life?
I do not use drugs and never care to.

What advice could you give a young student who is being bullied at school?
Be strong... Take it as it comes and be a duck (Just let it roll of your back)... Never initiate a fight but always be prepared to
defend yourself.

How old are you?
31 years old (2016)

What styles have you Learned?
Tae Kwon Do, karate and Kung fu

What is your favorite style of martial art?
So far I really love Kung fu,but I enjoy learning all styles

What's more important, showing that you're a competent martial artist or demonstrating that you're a competent teacher?
Definitely a competent teacher... I love teaching and breaking things down for people.
